An ECR is an announcement asking
for changes to a product. The ECR specifies the subject of the change: the
parts, assemblies, or documents to be changed, the reason for the change,
and the character of the change. An ECR can contain a valid electronic
document (such as a CAD drawing), with comments. The ECR is delivered
to the person responsible for the changes according to the workflow defined
for the system. This person decides what to do about the requested
changes. If the changes are worth doing he or she transforms the ECR into
an ECO and the changes are executed through the change process.
