This is a systematic and standard way to identify, to encode, and name a physical product, a part, a component, or some material for a product or service. Documents, too, are identified with the help of items. What constitutes an item depends upon the modes of action of the company, community, army, or other party. In addition to the above mentioned, items can also include, among other things, forms, packaging, installation tools, moulds, fasteners and embedded software. The computer software used in production use and the NC software for machine tools are often items.
