A system-theoretic concept: A system that is integrated with, and continually influenced by its environment. Many open systems, such as human and social systems have scores of unobservable inputs. Moreover, dimensions of their internal states are large and not fully observable. Their internal states cannot be observed or measured. Open systems are 'unidentifiable' and
'uncontrollable'.
